Tried to pick up ball that fell into well; tragic end for fourth grader

KOTTAYAM: Student met a tragic end while trying to pick up the ball that had fallen into a well. The deceased is Liju Biju (10), son of Biju Paul, a resident of Onthanal Villa Kudakkachira St. Thomas Mount Karur Panchayat Kottayam. He is a 4th class student at Kudakkachira St. Joseph LP School. While trying to pick up the ball, he fell into the well and got covered in mud. The locals pulled him out immediately but his life could not be saved.

The incident took place around 10:40 am today. Liju was preparing to receive his first communion. The incident happened when Liju was playing with his sister and other children who are his relatives. Liju slipped and fell into the well while trying to lift the ball that fell into the well with a basket. The parents were engaged in other work at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, a man died of suffocation after trying to rescue a goat stuck in a well in Kollam Kadakkal. Altaf (25), who lives near Mullassery Anganwadi, died. The incident happened around 12:30 pm today. Altaf suffocated and collapsed while trying to rescue the goat using a rope in a 60-feet deep well near the house. Firefighters arrived and took out the body.
